Join Pink Ribbon Society’s breast cancer fight through Strack & Van Til…

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of education, prevention and early detection. Merrillville-based Pink Ribbon Society helps individuals throughout Northwest Indiana access lifesaving screenings, support services and financial assistance during their breast cancer journey.
You can join the effort from Monday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 25, when Pink Ribbon Society will be the beneficiary of Strack & Van Til’s Checkout Challenge Round Up. Customers across the Region can round up their purchase to the nearest dollar when shopping at their local Strack & Van Til store with those extra funds donated to the organization.
Founded in 2001 by Ann Peters, whose own breast cancer journey inspired her to help others, Pink Ribbon Society is a vital resource in Northwest Indiana. Today, under the leadership of Executive Director Kristen Grzych, the organization continues its commitment to promoting early detection and supporting those affected by breast cancer.
Grzych says proceeds from the Round Up will fund preventive care with a focus on early detection programs for breast cancer, including screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs.
“A few cents at checkout can become a mammogram or ultrasound for someone who might not otherwise be able to afford one. The Round Up shows how small acts of generosity add up to early detection and peace of mind for our neighbors,” Grzych says.
For 25 years, Pink Ribbon Society has served more than 5,000 individuals throughout the Region. They’ve also helped with expenses including groceries, transportation, medical supplies, wigs and hairpieces during treatment, allowing patients to maintain confidence and dignity.
Strack & Van Til continues its more than 96-year tradition of philanthropy by raising funds to help organizations in the communities it serves throughout Northwest Indiana.
President Jeff Strack credits customer generosity and employee commitment for the success of the Checkout Challenge Round Ups.
“We are very grateful to our customers who contribute to these Round Up campaigns and make a difference in the lives of so many people,” Strack says. “They are the ones who give back to the community. Our stores, with the help of our employees, simply provide our customers with an outlet to donate to some of their favorite local organizations.”
