Health Benefits of Staying Hydrated

We all know that drinking enough water is a good idea especially during the warm summer months. Hydration is a key component in delivering nutrients to cells, regulating body temperature and keeping major organs functioning properly. Drinking at least 8 cups of water each day can help improve your mood and your sleep quality, while also helping to prevent headaches. Dehydration can easily trigger migraines. If you are low on fluids and electrolytes it can be hard to concentrate and function at your best. Â
A great way to stay hydrated is to consume fruits and vegetables that have a high water content. Cucumber, tomatoes, celery, peppers and melons all have a water content over 90%. These foods not only deliver nutrients, they also hydrate. If you find it difficult to drink at least 8 cups of pure water try adding berries, lemons, lime or cucumber and herbs to add a natural flavor. Even making ice cubes with fruit especially watermelon can be a delicious way to find a new love for water. Every system in our body needs water to survive, that is why it is often called the elixir of life. Challenge yourself to find new ways to stay hydrated this summer. Â
